Regulation List of the Faculty of Science for Postgraduate Studies
The regulations for graduate studies for the Faculty of Science were issued by Ministerial Resolution No. 925 in 1989
Chapter Three
Graduate Studies
First: a master's degree in science
Article 17:
To be enrolled in a master's degree in science, a student must have a bachelor's degree in science from an Egyptian university, or an equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by universities, and his grade in the subject of specialization is not less than good. Students may be enrolled for a master's degree from among those with a grade An acceptable year in a bachelor’s degree, provided that they obtain one of the specialization diplomas, with at least a very good grade.
Article 18:
The period required to obtain a master's degree is at least two years from the date of the student's enrollment in the study for the degree.
Article 19:
To obtain a master's degree in science, a student must:
(a) The student should pursue theoretical, practical and training studies organized by the College Council based on the proposal of the concerned department council for at least one year, in accordance with what is indicated in Article (26) of these regulations.
(b) For the student to succeed in the preliminary studies, he is required to obtain at least 60% of the total score, and he is required to obtain at least 50% in each examination paper.
(c) That the student, after succeeding in the degree-related courses, conduct research on a subject approved by the Postgraduate Studies and Research Council based on the proposal of the College Council for a period of at least one year from the date of approval of the College Council on registration.
(D) The student submits a letter containing the results of his research, which is accepted by the arbitration committee.
Article 20:
The theoretical study for each section is divided into a number of courses, and the student takes an exam in these courses with a number of papers not exceeding six exam papers. In addition, the student studies a course in the English language in one of the bodies determined by the College Council, and the student’s success in it is required before submitting his thesis to the College.
Article 21:
A student is not entitled to register for a master's degree if a period of more than three years elapses between his success in the introductory year and the registration of the research topic, starting from the beginning of the academic year following the year of his success and ending with the date of the department council's approval of the thesis registration before Discussing the thesis
Article 22:
Examinations for special study for the master's degree are held once a year on the dates approved by the Council of Postgraduate Studies and Research at the university based on the proposal of the College Council The student who fails the exam may apply for it again, provided that his exam is in all courses of the specialization subject.
A student is allowed to register for a master's degree if he fails in the additional subjects, provided that he is not allowed to submit the thesis until after he succeeds in these subjects.
Article 23:
The department council may announce a general lecture on the topic of the thesis before applying to be performed by the student within the department. The senior supervisor in the college presents a report on the validity of the thesis for presentation to the judging committee. A committee is formed to judge the thesis of three members, one of whom is the supervisor of the thesis and the other two members are among the professors or assistant professors in universities or Specialized scientific research centers and institutes.
The other two members, or one of them, may be former professors or specialists of their scientific level, and in all cases it is required that at least one of the members of the committee be from outside the college. Degree, and in the case of discussion, the committee collectively presents a joint report on the outcome of the discussion, and presents the reports to the College Council to recommend granting the degree after taking the opinion of the relevant department council.
The College Council may authorize the student whose eligibility to obtain the degree has not been determined to resubmit the thesis after completing its deficiencies or to submit another thesis.
Article 24:
Article 24:
The student's enrollment is canceled if five years have elapsed since he registered the thesis and he did not obtain the degree unless the College Council decides to maintain the registration for another period to be determined based on the supervisor's report and after taking the opinion of the concerned department council.
Article 25:
The master's degree certificate that is awarded to the student shall state what he majored in and the subject of the thesis he submitted.
Article 26:
The following are the courses for a master's degree in science in various disciplines. The College Council may, based on the proposal of the relevant department councils, add some courses within the limits of the study plan mentioned in this regulation.
Mathematics department
The student is enrolled for a master's degree in one of the following divisions:
1- Pure Sports Division.
2- Applied Sports Division.
3- Mathematical Statistics Division.
4- Division of Scientific Accounts.
The student studies six courses determined by the department council, at a rate of two hours per week for each course, for a period of one year, from among the courses shown for each section in the regulations.
physics department
The student is enrolled for a master's degree in one of the following two divisions:
1- Theoretical Physics Division
2- Experimental Physics Division
The student studies 12 hours per week throughout the year, distributed over 6 examination papers.

chemistry department
The student is enrolled for a master's degree in one of the following three divisions:
1- Department of Organic Chemistry
2- Division of Inorganic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry
3- Division of Biochemistry
The student studies 12 hours per week throughout the year, distributed over 6 examination papers. The list shows a statement of the courses in the different divisions, at an hour per week for each curriculum.
Department of Botany
1. The student is enrolled for a master's degree in one of the following divisions:
2. Plant Physiology
3. Microbiology
4. Ecology and Taxonomy Plant
5. Genetics and Cytology
a. Students of different divisions study the courses indicated in the list, at an hour's rate for each course, for a full year.
6. Department of Zoology
7. The student is enrolled for a master's degree in one of the following divisions:
8. Comparative Anatomy & Embryology
9. Protozoa, Invertebrates & Parasites
10. Cytology, Histology and Genetics
11. Physiology and Ecology
12. Students of all divisions study the courses indicated in the list, at an hour per week for each course for a year.
13. Department of Geology
14. The study is divided into four parts:
15. Minerals, rocks and ores deposits
16. Niralogy, Petrology and ore deposits
17. Paleontology and Stratigraphy
18. Sedimentary rocks and sedimentation
19. Sedimentary Petrology and Sedimentation
20. Petrolum geology and Hydrogeology
21. The student studies an hour per week in the courses indicated in the list, at a rate of one hour per week for each course.
22. Second: Doctor of Philosophy degree in Science
Article 25:
In order for a student to be enrolled for a PhD in science, he must have obtained a master's degree in science from an Egyptian university, or an equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by the university.
Article 26:
To obtain the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Science, the student must:
1- To carry out innovative research on a topic approved by the Graduate Studies Council
And research based on the proposal of the College Council for a period of at least two years from the date of approval of the College Council for registration
2- The student submits the results of his research a letter that is accepted by the judging committee.
Article 27:
The thesis judging committee is composed of three members, one of whom is the supervisor or one of the thesis supervisors, and the other two members are among the professors or assistant professors in the universities.
The other two members, or one of them, may be former professors or specialists at their academic level, provided, in all cases, that at least one of the committee members is from outside the college.
The department council may announce a public lecture on the subject of the thesis before applying to the student within the department.
The senior supervisor of the college submits a report on the validity of the thesis for presentation to the judging committee, and each member of the judging committee submits a detailed scientific report on the validity of the thesis. An oral discussion may be held before the degree is granted. In the event of discussion, the committee collectively presents a joint report on the outcome of the discussion, and the reports are presented to the College Council for recommendation. Granting the degree after taking the opinion of the concerned department council.
The College Council may authorize the student whose eligibility to obtain the degree has not been determined to resubmit the thesis after completing its deficiencies or to submit another thesis.
Article 28:
The student's enrollment is canceled if five years have passed since he registered for the degree and he did not obtain the degree unless the College Council decides to maintain the registration for another period.
He determines it based on the supervisor's report and after taking the opinion of the concerned department council.
Article 29:
In the certificate granted to the student, it is mentioned what he specializes in and the subject of the thesis he submitted.
