Nephrotoxic effect of titanium dioxide nano particles in rats: assessed by biochemical and molecular changes

Master Abstract

• The efficacy of Moringa Oleifera leaves extract (MO) in alleviating nephrotoxicity induced by titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) was studied. Rats were randomly assigned into 4 groups. Group I (control group) receive tween 80. Group II (TiO2-NPs treated group) received TiO2-NPs (500 mg/kg bw). Group III received both TiO2-NPs suspension as in group II beside MO (400mg/kg b.w). Group IV received MO extract only as described in group III. All treatments were given orally for sixty days. TiO2-NPs intoxicated rats elicited a significant down-regulation in kidney Nrf2, HO-1, up-regulation of KIM-1, TNF-a, HSP70 and NF-?B and Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System activation.The biochemical analysis and ultra histopathological finding reinforced these results. The co-administration of MO alleviated these changes. These data support the nutraceutical role of MO against TiO2-NPs toxicity.
