Master Title
Bacteriological and Immunological Studies on Bacterial Causes of Eenteritis in Broilers
Master Abstract
Bacteriological examination of 300 chickens was done for isolation and identification of bacterial strains causing enteric affections of chickens. The isolated microorganisms were E. coli, Salmonella species, K. pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis. The most predominant serogroups of recovered E. coli were O78 and O126 also; they were the most virulent isolates. The antibiogram results showed that, Ciprofloxacin, phosphomycin followed by kimphenicol then Cefotaxime were the most effective agents on E. coli serogroups O78 while, Salmonella species was mostly affected with kimphenicol and Cefotaxime. Also we studied the antagonistic activity of lectin against a tested strains in vitro which revealed inhibition to isolated bacteria.
Experimental infections with E. coli O78, as well as evaluating the role of lectins, antibiotics and probiotics (Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus subtilis) against the experimental infection of E. coli in broiler chickens were done. Enteric and respiratory signs with other clinical signs, post mortem lesions histopathological examination of intestinal tissue after experimental infection as well as mortalities were described in details. The obtained results proved that, Probiotics (bacillus subtilis and Enterococcus faecium) had a protective role against invasion and colonization of E. coli. Also, these results proved that Ciprofloxacin was an efficient antibiotic in treatment of E. coli. Furthermore it recommended that lectin can be an effective growth promoting, immunostimulating and antibacterial agent in poultry.
