Pathological studies on skin lesions in ruminants"

Research Abstract

Summary The skin is considered as the larged and most important organ of the body due to it is covered all over the body. Also, it is considered as the first defense line of the body against a lot of microorganisms and parasites which are tried to inter the animal's bodies. The presence of any microorganism or any affection may results this disease which effect on the animals health, effect on the grade degree of the hide and \or lead to animal death when it associated with disease on the other organ of the body. The present study was made to explore the important skin affections which are infecting the ruminants by gross and microscopic examination. the present study was worked on 103 skin specimens from different ruminants (67 cows, 13 buffaloes, 13 sheep, 9 goat and one camel) 8 cases which were collected from Beni-Suef abattoirs due to taking of the skin specimens from the skin leading to lowest the economic value of the skin to the owners; so that, the most of skin specimens were obtained from the field cases. There are 283 ear specimens were obtained from the triangular area of the external ear form different species (102 cows, 91 buffaloes, 43 sheep, 31 goats and 16 camels) to exploration the persistent infected animals by BVDV. The present results show that the most skin affections in ruminant is tumors (benign and malignant types) about 44 case from the total number as it is appeared in the following table No. Lesion Ruminant species Total number Cattle Buffaloe Sheep Goat Camel 1 Tumors Papilloma 17 0 0 0 0 17 Fibropapilloma 8 0 0 0 0 8 SCC 8 0 0 0 0 8 Epidermal cyst 0 0 1 0 0 1 Basalioma 0 0 1 0 0 1 Keratoacanthoma 1 0 0 0 0 1 Sebaceous gland adenoma or hyperplasia 1 0 0 0 0 1 Sweat gland adenoma or hyperplasia 1 0 0 2 0 3 Folliculoma 1 0 0 0 0 1 Histocytoma 0 0 1 0 0 1 Mastocytoma 0 1 0 0 0 1 Lymphoma 1 0 0 0 0 1 The biological skin diseases come next in 21 animal's cases as it showed in the nest table No. Lesion Ruminant species Total number Cattle Buffaloe Sheep Goat Camel 2 Biological skin lesions Viral LSD 6 1 0 0 1 8 MCF 1 0 0 0 0 1 Bacterial 0 1 0 0 0 1 Mycotic 5 0 5 0 0 10 Parasitic 1 0 0 0 0 1 Finally, there is a miscellaneous disease which are also affecting the skin which are present in the next table No. Lesion Ruminant species Total number Cattle Buffaloe Sheep Goat Camel 2 Miscellaneous skin lesions Acute dermatitis 6 1 2 1 0 10 Chronic dermatitis 10 1 1 5 0 17 Post vaccinal reaction 5 0 0 0 0 5 Granulation tissue and healing 1 0 0 0 0 1 Non suppurative 2 1 1 1 0 5
